Dr Olivia SmartGynaecologist, Health NZ Canterbury
Dr Olivia Smart is a Consultant Gynaecologist at Christchurch Women’s Hospital (Te Whatu Ora) and a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Otago. She has worked in Canterbury for over 25 years and has broad experience across women’s health, with a strong clinical focus on pain in both acute and chronic settings.
Her expertise includes the assessment and management of pelvic pain, pain with sex, and vulvovaginal conditions, as well as strategies to minimise surgical pain and optimise recovery following surgery. She has a special interest in trauma-informed care, sexual health, colposcopy, and the management of conditions such as lichen sclerosus and pre-cancerous disease of the lower genital tract. |
Dr Smart works closely with multidisciplinary teams including physiotherapists, psychologists, dieticians and is passionate about improving care pathways for people experiencing sexual pain through evidence-based, compassionate, and patient-centred practice.
She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) and a member of AGES, ISSVD, and ASCCP.
